review: twinklight the movie

Well I’ll come right out first off and say it — I don’t watch much porn. And generally when I post pics of the boys on here for you, there’s a reason they’re often wearing clothes,
and for me that’s often as cute or cuter than the full-on-spread-eagle-anked-on-the-floor photos.
So I came into this knowing that I love vampire movies (‘Otto:Up With Dead People’, ‘Queen of the Damned’, ’28 Days/Weeks Later’, all of Romero’s) and I love cute boys but usually porn I end up fast forwarding through. However, Twinklight caught me from the beginning and held my attention through the entire film (I watched it online, and they’ve set it up nicely in segments so you can watch a bit and come back to the rest later if need be).
Billa (the adorable Skyelr Blue) has just had what he thought was amazing sex with his boyfriend (Darin) when he’s told the dreaded words ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ It’s sure a shock for him and he decides to leave home with just a note to mom and thumb his way across the desert to his friend Bailey’s (JT Wreck) place in the big city (I think it’s Vegas) so he can sort out what to do next. He’s learning more about himself all the while including that he’s ‘too fucking uptight’ and it’s when he decides to loosen up and go out that things get interesting as he manages to wander into not just any gay bar but one for the vampire crowd. The movie takes a cue from Bruce Labruce and doesn’t hold back on the reality of it all — there’s plenty of sex, plenty of violence, and plenty of blood, all of it convincing.
The acting is great. I especially felt a lot for the three leads, no word of lie but Krys Perez does bring complexity into his acting quite a bit here and I found myself easily understanding why BIlla would fall for him.
And Billa, well, he’s more than a bit naive or just oblivious at times but as played by Skyelr he’s got a sort of vulnerability to him. Bailey, that is JT Wreck, is a real cutey with a serious party-train-to-hell mentality.
Technically, it’s as well filmed and lit as most any good vampire flick. The cinematography in general looks like it was done by a big-budget studio and it’s perfect for the genre. They didn’t skimp at all on the vampirish gore, ya, that got me a few times as I wasn’t quite expecting it but I’m glad they didn’t turn it into a bloodless vampire movie. The closest I have seen to this once against Is Labruce’s Otto; Or Up With Dead People though to me Twinklight was a lot more erotic and romantic.
If you go into it looking just for the sex, as it is after all a porn film, you won’t be disappointed to be sure but there’s actually quite a well-developed and well-acted storyline in here as well. You’d be shortchanging yourself to do that. I’m looking forward to the future updates to it as well, because this is the first in a series and it certainly does a great job of leaving a lot of things open at the conclusion that aren’t yet resolved.
